Adopt the OTR plugin
The OTR plugin for Pidgin is rather poorly maintained, even though a lot of people care about its functionality. With months-old unresolved bugs and icons that still use the Gaim logo, I can't help but look to Adium, which has well integrated OTR out of the box. Is there any good reason Pidgin or Funpidgin should not get that too?
I secdond this. OTR is a very important feature for me.
Agree, I also use OTR
Yes, it is very very important. Especially in these times where everything is logged and so on. People, care for your privacy! When Pidgin would support OTR ootb it would be a very big step for the privacy in the internet. Pleasy do it! In Adium it is so perfect....
Integrate OTR in Fun pidgin and when there a bugs we will let you know, bu please make the first step. It is so important that it should be built in (no plugin!).
Thanks in advance! :)
+1
Yes, please please implement this feature!
What do you think? I think it's not hard to implement this plugin.
I've installed carrier, pidgin and pidgin-otr on my ubuntu hardy, carrier see otr plugin too and it work well (i use it only with xmpp).
I'd like to add that I would like to see OTR support for Windows using Funpidgin.
what's the con of OTR as a plugin?
I think that the current setup of OTR as a plugin is ideal, but it should come as a default plugin that is enabled. This way people who for some reason do not want OTR can either disable or remove the plugin to suit their needs.
My opinion is that the biggest problem OTR has with becoming more main stream is that it is not included and turned on by default, meaning most casual users will never use it.
Hey,
It is not integrated, but an little tool to allow you to install OTR for the Windows Carrier can be found here.
Essentially you:
You know you've hit Jargonland when people just naturally talk in code and talk around a topic without spelling it out. Literally, in this case.
Without knowing a single thing about it, I am slightly concerned by all the "shoulds" being thrown around in the discussion. It's the "shoulds" that ultimately caused the pidgin/carrier forking, and I'd hate to see it here as well.
So what is OTR and why "should" I have it on by default and not given to me as a choice via a plugin?
